Brett Favre is being inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame today, and it has been a very emotional day for Packers fans everywhere. It has also been a day where former teammates of Favre have come out and talked about his success. LeRoy Butler was one of those former teammates, and he had a lot to say about his former quarterback.
Speaking about one time in particular when Favre had sprained his ankle, Butler went on to say that he didn’t feel that Favre was human.
“That thing was yellow, green, orange and brown,” Butler recalled. “I said, ‘Dude, you can’t play next week.’ He looked at me and said, ‘Roy Lee — that’s what he called me — there ain’t a damn thing wrong with my arm,'” Butler said. “He said, ‘There ain’t nothing wrong with the chicken wing.'”
That speaks volumes of what Favre was throughout his entire career. He was the leader that Green Bay needed, and he always played with a chip on his shoulder. There is a reason that he stayed on the field despite massive amounts of pain, and that reason is that he wanted to prove his doubters wrong.
“I don’t think he’s human,” said Butler. “Whenever it’s his time to leave this earth, I want to see the X-rays. I don’t believe it. He’s not human. I’m telling you the guy’s a mixture of Wolverine, RoboCop and Superman.”
Those comments coming from a former teammate show exactly how much respect they had for him. Being a leader and having that type of praise being heaped on you from a defensive player is something that not every quarterback can brag about. Favre did everything in his power to play for his teammates and win football games.
All of that being said, it is great to see him back in the good graces of the Packers. It was rough to see the two sides go through a rough period when Favre was originally traded from Green Bay to the New York Jets. Signing with the Minnesota Vikings made him an arch enemy of the Packers, and that was one of the roughest moments for any Packers fan.
Favre is rightfully being given his place in Packers’ history, and it is a good day to be part of the Green Bay franchise or a fan.
