Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr looks fine to play in Week 2

The Oakland Raiders are heading into a Week 2 game against the Baltimore Ravens that means a bit more to them than a normal Week 2 game would mean. They were blown out by the Cincinnati Bengals by a final score of 33-13 this past week and there are major question marks surrounding them. Oakland was expected to take a big leap forward this year, but that obviously didn’t end up happening.

Derek Carr injured his thumb during the game against the Bengals and the team did tests on him. According to a report from Alex Marvez, the Raiders’ quarterback looks fine to play in Week 2.

During the Raiders’ Week 1 embarrassment at the hands of the Bengals, Carr didn’t play too terribly bad. He ended up throwing for 61 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and completed seven of his 12 passing attempts. It was a fairly decent start to the season, although it was far from being the type of debut that he was expected to have to begin his second NFL season.

Looking ahead at Week 2, the going gets much tougher against an extremely talented Ravens’ defense.

Carr is going to have to play a much better game than he played last week and will have to remain healthy for the Raiders to have any chance at winning. He has the potential to become a very special quarterback and the Raiders went out and gave him a legitimate number one weapon in Amari Cooper. Now all Carr has to do is prove that he can be a star on the field for the Raiders.

Expect to see him come out strong against the Ravens and get his season back on track after the disappointing health issues early on in the year. Carr is too talented to not live up to the potential that has been set for him.

Oakland’s future hasn’t looked all that bright in quite some time, but things are changing with Carr under center.
