Packers WR Ty Montgomery is a Week 3 Fantasy Football sleeper

Looking ahead to Week 3 of the NFL season, there are quite a few Fantasy Football owners that are looking to pick up a sleeper to win their matchup. There are a few different options, but one of them is Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Ty Montgomery.

Green Bay saw Davante Adams go down with an ankle injury and miss some time against the Seattle Seahawks last week on Sunday Night Football. It forced the rookie receiver into action and he did an excellent job. Montgomery ended up catching four passes for 37 yards in his first game being used as a wide receiver.

Those numbers may not be huge, but it was obvious that superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers began trusting the rookie receiver after the first couple of catches.

At just 22 years old, confidence is all Montgomery needed to break onto the scene and have a big game. He is now brimming with confidence following his big game last week and is going to see some action against the Kansas City Chiefs this week on Monday Night Football. Green Bay hasn’t run a lot of four wide receiver sets, but the emergence of Montgomery gives that option to Tom Clements and Mike McCarthy.

There is also a chance that Adams could miss Week 3 against the Chiefs with the ankle injury that he is dealing with.

Whether Adams misses the game or not, there is a good chance that the Packers will have a role for Montgomery. He is going to get on the field with the skill-set that he has and is also the primary return man for the Packers. Green Bay saw a lot to like in his game last week and running four wide receiver sets would be very tough for the Chiefs’ secondary to defend against.

Is Montgomery the type of player that can power your fantasy team to a victory? Probably not. That being said, he is the type of flex player that could make some plays throughout Monday night that could help you edge an opponent in a close and competitive matchup.

Don’t go out and get Montgomery unless you are in major need of bringing another wide receiver onto your roster. He is a sleeper possibility but there is also still the chance that he doesn’t play much at all and would disappoint you after picking him up and giving him a chance. Waiting one more week to see if the Packers give him a role or not is the safe move.

On the other hand, if you’re desperately searching for a player in free agency and nothing else looks good, don’t be scared to pick up Montgomery and take the risk with him this week.

If Adams does miss the game, Montgomery should be an immediate pickup for any team needing wide receiver help and at that point wouldn’t be much of a risk at all and could put up huge numbers.
