The Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins clashed in a huge AFC matchup that could have playoff implications down the stretch of the season yesterday afternoon. It was a huge game for both teams, as they were both looking to prove that they are more than capable of taking the leap back into being a legitimate playoff contender.
Tyrod Taylor and the Bills came out and played a nearly perfect game on both sides of the football and ended up defeating the Dolphins by a final score of 41-14.
Coming out of that game, the Bills have to be even more confident in Taylor’s ability to lead them to the playoffs. He has been playing excellent football through the first three weeks of the season and is a perfect fit for their offense. Buffalo has a perfect supporting group around him as well and he will continue thriving throughout the rest of the season.
Rex Ryan had a very easy decision to make when Taylor completely outplayed Matt Cassel and E.J. Manuel for the starting quarterback job. Taylor not only could make plays with his arm, he could also make plays with his legs.
During yesterday’s game against the Dolphins, Taylor ended up completing 21 of his 29 passing attempts for 277 yards and three touchdowns. It was exactly the type of game that the Bills needed from him. He also picked up 12 yards on three carries throughout the course of the game.
Those numbers were huge for the Bills and he showed off the ability to make each and every throw on the field. He made long passes look easy and completed the short ones that he should have completed perfectly. Taylor had quite a few media members expecting him to fail, but he has taken those negative expectations to heart and has put together an excellent start to his career as an NFL starter.
At 26 years old, Taylor still has quite a bit of potential to work his way into over the next couple years with the Bills. He is currently under a three-year contract that will expire at the end of the 2017 season. There is a good chance that he will remain the Bills’ starter until his contract runs out, although there could be an extension in line for him as well.
Needless to say, there is a lot of excitement surrounding the Bills’ franchise for the first time in a long time. There are reasons to believe that the Bills could actually make the run into the postseason this year.
Taylor and Ryan have been able to put together an offense that can put pressure on each and every defense in the NFL. They fell to the New England Patriots in Week 2, but looked more than capable of winning that game as well if they hadn’t gotten off to a slow start.
Buffalo hasn’t been the type of team that could contend in the AFC over the last couple of years, but the times have changed with Taylor leading the way from the quarterback position.
