Just weeks after being released by the Dallas Cowboys, running back Joseph Randle was arrested on Tuesday night at a Kansas casino. Randle is facing numerous charges, including assaulting a police officer.
A gaming commission spokesman told Sports Illustrated Randle was asked to leave the Kansas Star Casino for being over-intoxicated, and causing a disturbance at the blackjack table. As two police officers attempted to escort the former Cowboy from the premises, the encounter turned physical.
This is Randle’s third run-in with the law in the last two years. He was arrested in October 2014 for shoplifting underwear and cologne from a Dillard’s in Dallas. Then, in February, Randle was arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at his girlfriend and unlawful possession of marijuana. The charges were dropped in April, but the NFL still suspended him four games this season for a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy.
Randle originally won the starting running back job for the Cowboys following the offseason departure of DeMarco Murray. He started six games for Dallas, rushing 76 times for 315 yards and four touchdowns.
However, he cut off communication with the team after finding out he lost his starting job due to the aforementioned suspension. The Cowboys officially cut ties with the running back on Nov. 3.
At the time of his release, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he was concerned about Randle’s future — words that unfortunately ring true today.
“I’m always concerned as to any issues regarding the [mental] health of a player,” Jones said. “It’s a lot more serious than the football [injury].”
In addition to assaulting an officer, the full charges against the 23 year old include: Suspicion of criminal threat, battery, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, and interference with law enforcement. His bond was set at $25,000.
Randle starred at Oklahoma State before Dallas drafted him in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
