TGS weekly MVP tracker: Russell Wilson comes out of nowhere

With three weeks remaining in the 2015 NFL regular season, here’s how we view the MVP race…

1. Russell Wilson, Seahawks: Suddenly, Wilson is the league’s highest-rated passer while ranking in the top four in all major categories. The man is absolutely on fire despite a bad offensive line, a so-so receiving corps, no Marshawn Lynch or Jimmy Graham and a defense that has slipped up quite a bit compared to 2013 and 2014.

2. Cam Newton, Panthers: If Carolina finishes 16-0, it’ll be hard for anyone but Newton to win. He’s clutch, he carries that offense on his back and he’s getting better as the season wears on. But the Panthers do provide him with a hell of a lot of support on both sides of the ball and eight quarterbacks still possess higher passer ratings. This is a toss-up right now.

3. Tom Brady, Patriots: And that toss-up might involve three quarterbacks because Brady is back on track after a stellar effort in an easy road win over the Texans. He hasn’t had a lot of support of late, but Brady still has a ridiculous 33-to-6 touchdown-to-interception ratio and a 103.6 rating.

4. Carson Palmer, Cardinals: Palmer is right there too. Leading what might be the best offense in the NFL, he has a 113.5 passer rating, four touchdowns and zero interceptions the last two weeks. He also ranks second in the league in passer rating and first in terms of yards per attempt.
