Alfred Morris broke out in a big way with the Washington Redskins, but has been slowing down over the past couple of seasons. He is set to hit open free agency this coming offseason and it doesn’t sound likely that he will be back. According to RealRedskins.com, the Redskins are unlikely to re-sign Morris and will let him walk this offseason.
It certainly makes sense for the Redskins to move on from their former star running back. Matt Jones seems like he’s ready to take over the starting role and they could look to sign another back or draft one as well.
Throughout the course of the 2015 NFL season, Morris ended up carrying the football 202 times for 751 yards and a touchdown. Those numbers average out to just 3.7 yards per carry. Morris is well on his way out of the league, but there is a good chance that the 27-year-old back will find another contract.
Washington is on the right track after making the playoffs this season, but getting a bit younger is likely the way they are going to go. Morris may not be “old” but there are major concerns about his body and the way he was playing this season.
There are going to be quite a few talented running backs on the free agency market this offseason.
That being said, it’ll be interesting to see which team decides to give Morris a shot. There is always the chance that he isn’t going to find a deal, but that doesn’t seem like the most likely possibility.
Expect to see another team pick up Morris, but it’ll be strange to see him elsewhere after the big seasons that he had with the Redskins.
