The most interesting team in the NFL: Week 1 edition

Each Friday this NFL season, we’ll take a quick look at the league’s most interesting team in action that weekend. To kick things off, we go with America’s Team.

Why the Dallas Cowboys? Because  they’ve got two extremely exciting rookies playing huge roles on offense, with preseason sensation Dak Prescott starting at quarterback in place of the injured Tony Romo and No. 4 overall pick Ezekiel Elliott lining up in the backfield. Elliott is the odds-on favorite to be the the league’s offensive rookie of the year, but with that stacked offensive line providing support alongside Dez Bryant and Jason Witten, even Prescott is a strong candidate.

Why this week? Rookie quarterbacks in Week 1 are something special. Only in Dallas and Philadelphia will that take place this weekend, but the Eagles don’t have a Zeke Elliott in the backfield, and they’re not playing a division rival like the New York Giants.

What should we expect? That’s what makes this particularly interesting. Nobody knows what to expect from rookies in their debuts, especially in the NFC East. Prescott and Elliott are going up against a defense that ranked dead last in the NFL last season, but the Giants always play Dallas tough and they invested like a jillion dollars in that unit this offseason. Last check, this was a pick’em in Vegas.

Throw in major questions on defense due to some killer suspensions and it’s clear that entering Week 1, the Cowboys are America’s most interesting football team.
