Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills are set for a Week 2 showdown with the New York Jets on Thursday night. It is an AFC rivalry that will carry a little extra for both teams, especially Ryan as he is facing his old team. Todd Bowles is looking to prove once again that the Jets made the right move to replace Ryan with him, and that the Jets are back to being a playoff contender.
Both of these teams are hoping to make a run at the AFC playoff picture this season. They are also both looking for their first win of the 2016 NFL season, as Week 1 didn’t end up going the way they had hoped.
It will be an interesting game to say the very least. Buffalo has the advantage of playing at home, but some would say that Bowles and the Jets have the better all-around team.
All of that being said, what are three keys to victory for Ryan and the Buffalo Bills this week?
Get LeSean McCoy the Football Early and Often
One of the biggest keys for the Bills has to be getting star running back LeSean McCoy going early and often. Whether Ryan hands him the football or designs short passes to get him in the open field, he has to make a big impact. There are very few playmakers with the talent that McCoy has across the NFL and the Bills need to use that to their advantage this week.
Tyrod Taylor Must Take Care of the Football
Most importantly, Tyrod Taylor has to stay clear of folding under the pressure that the Jets will send his way. Turnovers are going to be a major key in deciding who wins Thursday night’s game and it is Taylor’s job to make sure the Bills don’t have any. If he can stay calm and collected under pressure, the Bills will have a good chance to pull off a huge win.
Put Pressure on Ryan Fitzpatrick All Game Long
Last, but certainly not least, the Bills have to dial up pressure on Jets’ quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Buffalo has the potential to be a top pass rushing team in the NFL and it’s time to show it this week. Expect to see Ryan throwing his pass rush at Fitzpatrick all game long.
