With the weekend arriving, here are a handful of NFL injuries to keep an eye on for Week 3.
Thomas Rawls: The second-year running back was supposed to be a breakout fantasy star in 2016, but Rawls hasn’t been healthy. He has been missing Seattle Seahawks practices all week with shin injury, which puts his status for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers very much in doubt. If you’ve got Rawls in fantasy, hopefully you’ve insured yourself. Christine Michael should get plenty of work Sunday, regardless of whether Rawls is active or not.
Antonio Gates: The veteran tight end has been out of San Diego Chargers practices with a hamstring injury, and it sounds like there’s a decent chance he doesn’t play Sunday against the Colts. Gates hasn’t done much early this season, so it’d be interesting to see what rookie second-round pick Hunter Henry could bring to the table in Gates’ stead.
Sammy Watkins: The talented young Buffalo Bills wide receiver has been dealing with a foot injury, and head coach Rex Ryan has said there’s some concern he won’t be able to play Sunday against the tough Arizona Cardinals. If that’s the case, Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin will get extra looks in a tough matchup.
Arian Foster: The veteran Miami Dolphins running back continues to miss practice time due to a groin injury, which indicates there’s a strong chance he doesn’t suit up Sunday against the Browns. That’s a shame, because it’s the Browns. There’s talk of a committee approach, with backs Jay Ajayi, Kenyan Drake, Damien Williams, and Isaiah Pead all potentially getting involved.
Brandon Marshall: Despite dodging a bullet by suffering a minor knee injury that sure looked major last Thursday, the veteran New York Jets wide receiver has been missing practice time this week. The Jets have a good receiving corps, but they could sure use Marshall in a tough matchup with the Chiefs.
