Jared Goff was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. It was a move that many thought would turn the future around for the Rams. He has yet to play in his rookie season, but is set to make his first career start this week against the Miami Dolphins.
According to a report from Bleacher Report, the Rams still aren’t sure that Goff is ready to play an NFL game.
Why would they throw the future of their franchise out on the field if they aren’t even sure he’s ready to play. Obviously, head coach Jeff Fisher is hoping that the rookie quarterback can save his job.
Fisher has stuck with Case Keenum all season long stating that he felt that Keenum gave the Rams the best chance to win. Now that the team has been plunging lower and lower instead of improving, Fisher is making the move to change quarterbacks. Goff is the only other quarterback on the roster that has the talent to play at the NFL level and therefore is getting his number called by Fisher.
Needless to say, this week’s game will be intriguing to keep an eye on for all NFL fans. Goff showed during his college career that he has the potential to become a star at the next level. Now, it’s time for him to step out on the professional football field and prove that to the league.
Miami is a fairly good first opponent for the rookie to go up against. They are not known for having a great secondary, although they are capable of getting to the quarterback from time to time.
It is hard to predict what fans should expect from Goff, as no one has seen what he has to offer. Going up against true first-string defenses is much different than anything the preseason can throw at a young quarterback. Goff will likely have ups and downs this week, although doing enough to get a win would be a huge win for the young quarterback.
Expect to hear plenty about Jared Goff this week as he takes the NFL field for the first time as a starting quarterback in the regular season.
