Texas Longhorns Expected to Fire Head Coach Charlie Strong

Charlie Strong is without question one of the more intriguing names in the world of college football. He was expected to turn the Texas Longhorns’ football program around when he was hired, but that hasn’t happened and the team is still not competing at the level that they were used to.

After this weekend’s loss to the Kansas Jayhawks, it sounds like Strong’s days with the Longhorns are numbered.

According to a report, the Longhorns have already decided to fire Strong. It is just a matter of time before the news leaks, but the report says that the decision has already been made.

During his tenure with the Longhorns, Strong has put together a 16-20 record. He has brought in some strong recruits, but has not been able to turn the program around. Whoever takes over for Strong will have some good pieces in place to help get the rebuilding process jumpstarted once again.

Strong isn’t going to have to look too hard to find a new coaching job. There will be another college team that will bring him on board. One team to keep an eye on is the Purdue Boilermakers, who are in need of an upgrade on the sidelines, but may not be a big enough draw to attract an elite head coach.

Texas football hasn’t been competitive for quite some time. Perhaps the Longhorns are regretting their decision to replace Mack Brown as their head football coach. No matter what hindsight says, the Strong era simply has not worked out for either side.

Expect to see the Longhorns fire Strong quickly following the end of their 2016 season. They are likely going to keep him around through the end of the year, but there doesn’t seem to be a chance that he will be back in 2017.
