The first round of games today has been, well, my nap time. Pretty much all of the games have been blowouts with a couple of them tightening up at the end. There’s not much more to say about this round of games other than, “Yawn.”
New York Jets 27, Buffalo Bills 11
Derek Pease kept up with this game, and here’s what he had to say as it unfolded:
Watching Buffalo and the Jets. Surprised to see Rex Ryan putting so much of the game into the hands of Mark Sanchez. Didn’t exactly work in the first half of the game…or the season. However it has this afternoon. Long strikes to Plaxico Burress and TD strike to Santiono Holmes open up the game. Two pass interference penalties have helped the cause but still Sanchez has been moving the Jets down the field putting the running game in easy spots to tack on points. Hard to miss that 17 of the Jets 23 1st downs have come via the pass.
Buffalo has done their part to take themselves out of the game. Two pass interferences penalties, one in the end zone and another inside the 10 made it far to easy for tje Jets. Add to that Fred Jackson’s struggles and you have a 27-3 ball game. Aside from his fumble in the 2nd half two drops by Jackson really hurt the Bills. One on 3rd and short inside the 10 that would have gone for a first down near the goal line and another on the Bills next drive on 2nd down and short that lead to another stalled drive.
Atlanta Falcons 31, Indianapolis Colts 7
The only real notable topic out of this game is that the Colts are now an impressive 0-9, and they’re now the only team in the NFL. The “suck for Luck” push is on in full scale in Indianapolis, and for the second straight week, they looked absolutely terrible. Their only points came off of an interception inside the Falcons’ 10 yard line.
With the win, the Falcons continue to rebound after a rough start. They’re now firmly above .500 at 5-3, and there seems to be a good chance that they can make a strong run to win their division once again.
Miami Dolphins 31, Kansas City Chiefs 3
The only reason we’re highlighting this score today is the Dolphins now have their first win of 2011. As I pointed out above, the Colts are now the only team without a win. The manner in which they got that first win is surprising to say the least. It’s possible that the Chiefs’ short week hurt their efforts to prepare for the Dolphins, but come on. It’s the Dolphins. This has certainly been the surprise of the week.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 16, New Orleans Saints 27
In one of the few games that was competitive from the 1 PM round of games, the Saints secured their lead in the NFC South for at least another week with a statement win over the Buccaneers. The Saints were embarrassed last week in St. Louis, and it seems that they took that loss personally.
In all reality, this game really wasn’t very close until late in the 4th quarter, but when the Buccaneers needed a stop to give themselves a chance to tie the game, they couldn’t get it. The Bucs now drop to 4-4, and they’re in a very uncomfortable position in the playoff race.
Other Games:
Seattle Seahawks 13, Dallas Cowboys 23
Cleveland Browns 12, Houston Texans 30
San Francisco 49ers 19, Washington Redskins 11
