Jake Locker is really proud of his chicken coop

If you own and maintain a chicken coop, you should be damn proud. It seems that for Titans quarterback Jake Locker, his tiny backyard chicken colony is both a source of serenity, and convenience.

Quarterbacks usually have a weekly conference call with reporters who cover the team they’re set to play. For reasons that aren’t at all clear, Locker was asked about his chicken coop (yes, he has one) while speaking with Bengals beat writers earlier this week.

His tone of voice couldn’t hide the immense joy he feels while thinking about his chicken friends, all 15 of them.

From the Tennessean:

“My grandparents always had chickens when we were young and I loved it, loved going out there and going and getting eggs for breakfast and to sell,” said Locker, who’s from Ferndale, Wash. “It’s awesome – we haven’t had to buy eggs from the store in about two years now, so it’s pretty neat. It’s pretty cool just to be able to go to your back yard and grab them.”

Locker’s not sure how many eggs he gets a week, but it’s a lot.

“It just depends on the weather and stuff,” Locker said. “But they all have started laying here recently so we get probably close to eight a day.”

Eight eggs a day? Sounds like Locker has found his calling and source of income if this whole NFL quarterback thing doesn’t work out.
