14 crazy stats from Week 3

We witnessed wild times again in Week 3. Quarterbacks caught passes, the New England Patriots looked ordinary against the Raiders, and the San Francisco 49ers didn’t score a point in the fourth quarter.

Actually, that last thing is pretty normal now.

3: The amount of quarterbacks who caught passes. Well, it’s technically two because Johnny Manziel and the Browns used dirty illegal trickery. The others were Russell Wilson and Andy Dalton, and the latter ended in a receiving touchdown for the Bengals quarterback, which goes against all logic.

5: The number of safeties in Week 3, tying the most ever in a single week.

31: The consecutive home games won by New England against conference opponents. The latest was far closer than it should have been, with a rookie quarterback making a Bill Belichick coached team rather uncomfortable, which shouldn’t happen ever.

63: The yardage given up by Darrelle Revis when he was targeted in coverage during that game. Derek Carr (Derek Carr) wasn’t afraid to visit Revis Island, and had only one incompletion when throwing towards the All-Pro cornerback.

77-24: The combined score in two of Sunday’s games that you didn’t need to watch for long. The Titans were thoroughly gobbled by Cincinnati, and Jacksonville went full Jaguars against Indy.

85: The points allowed by those still bottom-dwelling Jaguars over the past two weeks.

0: The points scored by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth quarter this season, the latest round number a shutout in a divisional loss to the Cardinals.

3: The points scored by the 49ers in the second half this season. Yes, it gets worse.

3: The amount of receiving touchdowns for Colts running back Ahmad Bradshaw, including one more this week. He has that many in three games, and prior to this season Bradshaw had three receiving touchdowns over seven years.

153.5: The average yards from scrimmage posted each week so far by Le’Veon Bell. The Steelers returned to playing Steeler-like football this week in a win over Carolina, and Bell finished with 147 rushing yards.

2: The amount of games this year Larry Fitzgerald has waited until the fourth quarter to record his first reception. In the Cardinals’ win over San Francisco he didn’t get into the boxscore until the 8:59 mark of the final quarter.

2: The passing touchdowns scored by the Rams during their first two drives against the Cowboys. Prior to Week 3 they were the only team that hadn’t scored a passing touchdown.

12: Victor Cruz’s consecutive games without a touchdown, a streak broken Sunday.

4: The missed field goals in the 40-49 yard range by now former Lions kicker Nate Freese, one of which came this week. All other NFL kickers combined have missed five kicks from that range.

About Sean Tomlinson

Hello there! This is starting out poorly because I already used an exclamation point. What would you like to know about me? I once worked at a mushroom farm, which is sort of different I guess (don't eat mushrooms). I'm pretty wild too, and at a New Year's Eve party years ago I double-dipped a chip. Oh, and I write about football here and in a few other places around the Internet, something I did previously as the NFL features writer and editor at The Score. Let's be friends.
