On Wednesday, we posted the first half of our updated mock draft which included the San Diego Chargers trading up to the #3 slot to grab Marcus Mariota. Today, we explore the second half of the first round…
Here are picks 17-32:
17. Jacksonville Jaguars (via mock trade with San Diego Chargers) – Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia
The Jaguars traded down and still landed in a great spot. They missed out on Dante Fowler, Vic Beasley and Randy Gregory by trading down but based on Todd Gurley’s recent positive prognosis of his knee, they grab a player who could end up being the best player from this draft.
18. Kansas City Chiefs – Ereck Flowers, OT, Miami
Kansas City needs help along the offensive line here and they have a lot to choose from as they pick Flowers to add instant help to their OL.
19. Cleveland Browns (via Buffalo Bills) – Malcolm Brown, DT, Texas
The Browns have recently met with Danny Shelton, Malcolm Brown and Eddie Goldman. Only two are available here and Brown just seems to fit a bit better in their scheme.
20. Philadelphia Eagles – Landon Collins, S, Alabama
If we could only get into Chip Kelly’s head and figure out where he’s going with this pick. Chip picks Collins before he remembers that he never played for Oregon.
21. Cincinnati Bengals – Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford
With an aging offensive line the Bengals have options here but they go with Peat from Stanford.
22. Pittsburgh Steelers – Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest
With holes in secondary, the Steelers have a few ways they can go here but they go with Johnson. The Steelers have had their eye on him for a while and they put the trigger at #22.
23. Detroit Lions – D.J. Humphries, OT, Florida
With the weight he has added in the off-season, Humphries has jumped up the board and the Lions are glad to see him still available here.
24. Arizona Cardinals – Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin
Great value pick up here for the Cards as Gordon is going to be a good one for them.
25. Carolina Panthers – La’el Collins, OT, LSU
It’s time to invest in someone to help Cam Newton stay healthy and the Panthers do just that with Collins.
26. Baltimore Ravens – Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State
Strong is a bit raw but has a good well rounded skill set and should fit well with the Ravens.
27. Dallas Cowboys – Byron Jones, CB, UConn
The Cowboys need help at corner and they add the ultra athletic Jones with this pick to fill that hole.
28. Denver Broncos – T.J. Clemmings, OT, Pitt
The Broncos fill a need with Clemmings and Peyton Manning is a happy man.
29. Indianapolis Colts – Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State
The Colts need help in the middle of their defense stopping the run so they go with Goldman with this pick.
30. Green Bay Packers – Eric Kendricks, ILB, UCL
The Packers have a need at ILB and with none taken so far in the draft they get their pick of the litter in Kendricks.
31. New Orleans Saints (via Seattle) – Phillip Dorsett, WR, Miami
The Saints went defense in the first round, so they take offense here as Dorsett is a burner that can fit into the offense and will fill some of the production left by Kenny Stills and Jimmy Graham.
32. New England Patriots – Dorial Green-Beckham
Why not, right? DGB is a supreme talent and if he’s straightened himself out after a year off then the Patriots could end up with the best receiver in the draft.
