In what may be the most interesting matchup so far this season the New York Jets visit the Denver Broncos. The New York Jets know what to expect from Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos – an option-style offense that relies almost exclusively on running the ball. Yet despite running an gameplan that’s older than Fred Flintstone, Tebow managed over 19 fantasy points last week.
Coming off a disappointing loss that put a dent in their chances of winning the AFC East, the Jets look to bounce back Thursday night against Tebow and the Broncos, who are suddenly in the thick of the AFC West race.
The trick is to stop this unconventional strategy and get a win, something only one opponent has managed to accomplish since Tebow took over at quarterback last month. And as strong as the Jets defense is with Darrelle Revis holding opposing QB’s to a sub-20 quarterback rating (that’s bad), Denver actually contains his kryptonite: Tim Tebow. A quarterback who attempts less than 10 passes a game is the BEST way to neutralize a shut down corner like Revis.
Start ’em
Mark Sanchez: Broncos, who have not defended the pass well this year and is giving up the 8th-most FPG to QBs over the last five weeks.
Tim Tebow: Continues to defy all logic and if he can break 150 passing yards he’ll be huge for fantasy!
Shonn Greene: Broncos can be run on and the Jets could be in complete control plus no LT means a ton of carries for Greene.
Santontio Holmes: Thinking the physical Bailey will see more time on Burress which could free up Holmes to make plays.
Jets D/ST: Have to love their chances against that thing they call an offense in Denver. Low scoring, turnovers and sacks oh my, this could be a fantasy dream
Champ Bailey: Can always count on Sanchez to make a poor decision or two and force his throws. An interception at minimum should be expected.
Sit ’em
Willis McGahee: Listed as questionable so hasn’t been ruled out but this looks like a tough go for their offense.
Denver wide receivers: See: Tim Tebow.
Plaxico Burress: Denver may not defend the pass well as a unit…but Champ Bailey does.
Darrelle Revis: Tim Tebow does not throw well, but he does not throw often either. As a result Revis’ primary skills most likely will be unused.
