NFL Reactor: AFC West As Crazy As Ever

Chicago Bears 20, Oakland Raiders 25

If we’re being honest with ourselves, we’re not surprised that the Bears struggled against a formidable opponent today.

The Raiders have played themselves into first place in the AFC West, and they’ve been aided by the Chargers’ struggles. At 7-4, the Raiders’ biggest concern within their own division is with the Denver Broncos, who have played themselves back into the divisional race. More on that in a minute. The Raiders split their season series with the Broncos, and Denver currently holds the tie breaker with a better divisional win percentage. The Raiders, with a divisional win, could pull even in their divisional record, however.

This is a time that the Bears should find a moral victory in defeat. That came in the form of the 4th quarter, where they rallied to give themselves a chance to win. Despite the loss, they’re still firmly in control of their own playoff destiny, and with their defense, they should be able to weather the storm without Jay Cutler.

Denver Broncos 16, San Diego Chargers 13

Tim Tebow led the Broncos back in the 4th quarter of their thrilling win over the train-wreck-in-slow-motion that is the 2011 San Diego Chargers. Then, in overtime, Tebow was able to put the Broncos back in field goal range with under 2:00 to play, and Matt Prater was able to drill the 37 yarder for the win. With the win, the Broncos were able to keep pace with the Raiders in the divisional race.

With the loss, Norv Turner essentially is now a lame duck coach. Granted, it would have taken nothing short of a miracle for the Chargers to catch and pass the Raiders for the divisional title, but any hope that was left in San Diego is now lost. Don’t feel too bad for them though; they can watch the playoffs on the beach.
