Philip Rivers MVP??

He is young, He is talented, He is fiery, He is Philip Rivers….Rivers has potential to be an all time great QB and I believe this yearis primed to be the leagues MVP

Rivers threw for 4,710 yards and 30 touchdowns last year WITHOUT Vincent Jackson at WR most of the year and several offensive injuries limiting the amount of playmakers he had to chose from.  There were points in the season that his WR core looked more like a spelling bee competition having to throw to guys like Seyi Ajirotutu. Try saying that out loud, it is a color commentator’s nightmare.

This year Rivers should have a full arsenal at his disposal having Vincent Jackson from day 1 and a healthy Antonio Gates.  If San Diego had the number 1 offense in the league last year, this year the sky is the limit. Another factor that might play into Rivers’ favour is the fact that the two times he plays Oakland this year it will be without one of the league’s top corners, Nnamdi Asomugha. If you have watched any of Oakland’s preseason games (and I don’t know why you would) the name DeMarcus Van Dyke would stick out. The rookie is a huge liability and should stick out like a sore thumb when Rivers tries to torch that Raiders D. Last year Oakland won both games against San Diego, I expect a much different result this time around.

In a weak division the Chargers are set up for a serious run behind Rivers. Rivers might even challenge to break some of Dan Marino’s single season records this year. I believe San Diego will go 12-4 led by a career year from Philip Rivers that will land him MVP honours.

5,000 yards and 35 touchdowns could be an achievable goal for the young gunslinger.
