REACTOR: Donovan McNabb benched

The Donovan McNabb era in Minnesota may already be over. The Vikings’ pocket-warmer for rookie Christian Ponder has been benched — very publicly, on Sunday Night Football — midway through the third quarter of an awful blowout in Chicago. Clearly Leslie Frazier was displeased with McNabb’s inability to set and hold his own blocks, his failure to catch his own passes, and his powerlessness to put any kind of pressure on Jay Cutler. In short, McNabb failed in pretty much every aspect of the game, and deserved a benching.

No word on the other 21 Vikings starters who have pretty much sucked all night long.

As Chuck Carroll of Football News Now points out, today has not been a very good day for Redskins quarterbacks, past and present: McNabb’s benching follows the benching of Rex Grossman against Philly, and the Raiders’ loss of Jason Campbell to an apparent season-ending injury. (Watch your ass, Mark Rypien!)

The five happiest men in this story? The Chicago Bears awful offensive line, who for one night were not the worst unit on the field.
