Brian Kelly rumor confirms Jim Schwartz is on a very hot seat

Last year was a return to normal for the Detroit Lions. After a quick start, the Lions were unable to put sixty minutes of solid football together, and they finished the season with just 4 wins. It was thought that head coach Jim Schwartz might not survive the season.

Obviously Schwartz did survive the season, and he's hoping to lead the Lions to a big turnaround in 2013, but if the rumor mill is to be believed at all, Schwartz won't be given another chance beyond this season if things turn out anything like 2012.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Lions are rumored to have interest in Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly if Schwartz can't turn the Lions around. Kelly was pursued by the Eagles for some time before ultimately turning down their offer and returning to Notre Dame. At that point, the Eagles turned to Oregon head coach Chip Kelly to fill the void at the head coaching position.

If the rumor is even a little bit true, it implies that Jim Schwartz won't be given any rope this time around. The Lions weren't just a poor football team last year, they had little to no discipline, and they were never able to connect the dots. In four years, Schwartz has put together just one winning season in Detroit, but outside of that anomaly, he's been largely disappointing as the Lions' leader.
