8 crazy stats from Week 9

You’re about to notice a lot of Jeremy Maclin during our weekly numerical rundown. But we start with a quarterback who could break the single-season passing record.

3,085: Andrew Luck’s passing yards through nine games this season. Peyton Manning is the only quarterback with more during that span in league history (his 3,249 yards last year). Luck is currently on pace to break Manning’s single-season passing yards record.

3: Jeremy Maclin’s touchdown receptions that have required a catch and run for 50 or more yards. The latest was a 59-yarder during the Eagles’ win over Houston.

26.3: Maclin’s average yards per reception in that game. Yikes.

325: Maclin’s receiving yards over his past two games. He’s the first receiver with back-to-back 150-plus yard games and multiple touchdowns since 2009.

3: The amount of times in franchise history the Jets have lost eight straight. The first came in 1975, the second in 1996, and now the third in 2014. Rex Ryan needs to be fired and/or saved from his weekly misery.

4: The amount of games in which the Chargers had scored 30 or more points prior to Week 9, bringing their per game averaging to 25.6 (9th). How many points did they score against the Dolphins? Zero.

14: The amount of sacks Colin Kaepernick has taken over the 49ers’ past two games, eight (!!!) of which came this week at the hands of a rejuvenated Rams pass rush.

10: The total touchdowns for Julius Thomas this season, making him the first tight end in Broncos history to have back-to-back double-digit touchdown years. Thomas has scored 22 times over his last 22 regular-season games. He’s pretty good.

About Sean Tomlinson

Hello there! This is starting out poorly because I already used an exclamation point. What would you like to know about me? I once worked at a mushroom farm, which is sort of different I guess (don't eat mushrooms). I'm pretty wild too, and at a New Year's Eve party years ago I double-dipped a chip. Oh, and I write about football here and in a few other places around the Internet, something I did previously as the NFL features writer and editor at The Score. Let's be friends.
