5 things to watch for in Green Bay Packers second preseason game

The Green Bay Packers are preparing to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road in their second preseason game, and it should be a very entertaining game for both fan bases. Green Bay was able to pull off a 22-11 victory over the New England Patriots during their first preseason game, and hoping to take another step forward as a franchise in their second game.

Once again, the Packers are not expected to play their starters too much during the second week of preseason action. They did look very solid this season when they were on-the-field, and it will be interesting to see how much they play this week. At this point in time, the Packers are expected to be a legitimate championship contender during the 2015 season, and many have them as the favorite to win Super Bowl 50.

That being said, what five things should Packers fans watch for during the game against the Steelers?

1. How Does Rookie WR Ty Montgomery Perform?

Montgomery was Green Bay’s third-round draft pick during the 2015 NFL Draft, and there is no question that they have high expectations for him in the future. He only caught two passes for 28 yards in his first game, and is going to have plenty of opportunities to prove his game this week. There is no denying the fact that he has big time talent, and he should show more of that potential in Week 2 of preseason action.

2. Can John Crockett Make an Impact?

Crockett was one of the nation’s top running backs in college football last year with the North Dakota State Bison. He picked up 1,994 yards and 21 touchdowns on 368 carries, but only had 10 carries for 26 yards and no touchdowns in his first NFL game. If he wants to make the Packers’ final 53-man roster, the 6-foot-0 and 217-pound running back will have to make a big impact over the next three games.

3. Is Scott Tolzien Ready to Lock Up the Backup QB Job?

Aaron Rodgers has missed time due to injury in each of the last two seasons, and the Packers have turned to veteran quarterback Matt Flynn to back him up. That will change this season with Tolzien expected to be the primary backup to Rodgers, and he threw for 107 yards and a touchdown in Week 1. He has a chance to put a choke hold on the job, and there is no question that the Packers are ready to see him take hold of the position.

4. Can Quinten Rollins Continue His Stellar Play?

Losing both Tramon Williams and Davon House this past offseason in free agency was a tough blow for the Packers’ secondary. Green Bay selected Quinten Rollins in the 2015 NFL Draft, and he made some excellent plays against the Patriots last week. He has a chance to earn some legitimate playing time during the upcoming season, and that all starts with his performance as he looks to have a second big performance.

5. Richard Rodgers or Andrew Quarless for Starting Tight End?

Perhaps the only question mark surrounding the Green Bay offense is the tight end position. Rodgers was listed as the starting tight end during Week 1 of preseason action, but didn’t do anything to solidify himself as the starter for Quarless. Both players have a lot to prove this week, and they are going to be given every opportunity to prove why they should win the starting job.
