Another NFL week in the books, another five takeaways.
1. This is everything.
No other words need to be written. Thank you very much Kirk Cousins.
2. AFC Worst
I thought the AFC West had the chance to be one of the best divisions in the NFL. In case you haven’t tuned into the first seven weeks of the NFL season — the AFC West is not one of the best divisions in the NFL.
The Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers are both disasters. For Kansas City, Alex Smith is no longer even an average NFL quarterback, Jamaal Charles is hurt, their offensive line gets shredded weekly and the secondary is a free pass to any functioning quarterback to have a field.
San Diego’s defense has been one of the worst in the NFL, the offense is completely reliant on Philip Rivers to cover up for offensive line flaws and after multiple close games everything fell apart on Sunday against the Raiders.
Speaking of Oakland they’re the second-best team in the division. They play their most important game in years this week against the New York Jets for a chance to legitimately get themselves into the AFC Wild Card discussion.
Denver is 6-0, but their offense is non-existent. Does that change coming off their bye when they take on the Green Bay Packers?
3. Welp Cowboys
Remember when people used to think Tony Romo wasn’t good? How’s that going for you? In the four full games Romo hasn’t played Dallas is 0-4, putting them at the bottom of the NFC East. Matt Cassel wasn’t much better than Brandon Weeden as he threw three interceptions in their loss to the Giants. The Cowboys have three more games until Romo is allowed to return to the field against the Dolphins. They take host the Seahawks in Week 8, followed by another home game against the Eagles and then they play at the Buccaneers. Dallas needs to find a way to go 2-1.
4. A look into the future
It came in a crushing loss, but this is what the Buccaneers imagined when they picked Jameis Winston with the number-one overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Winston connected with last year’s first round pick, Mike Evans, eight times for 164 yards and a touchdown. The duo looked unstoppable. Winston completed 21-29 passes for 297 yards and two touchdowns. These are the two building blocks for the Buccaneers to be able to develop a high-level offense. This was only the first step, but it was much needed.
5. Yahoooooooooooooooooooooooo
I had a fantasy basketball draft on Sunday at 7:30 a.m. Pacific Time so I just woke up an hour early and watched the Bills-Jaguars game. I have a roku and used the Yahoo app on my TV. It was an enjoyable experience not much different than watching a typical game on a Sunday. I had to reload due to buffering a couple times during the game, but it was nothing too bad. I live off of streaming cable so maybe I’ve just adjusted to issues like this — I’m giving the performance a strong B+.
