Jay Cutler has been one of the most frustrating athletes that the city of Chicago has had in quite some time. The Chicago Bears originally acquired him because they thought he could be the type of franchise quarterback that they were in major need of acquiring. Unfortunately, he has yet to prove that and is heading into what could be a make-or-break year in 2015.
Looking ahead at the 2015 season, the Bears are not expected to be a legitimate contender in the NFC. They could surprise some people, but it will all depend on whether or not Cutler can turn his career back around.
There are quite a few fans that don’t expect him to turn things around, while there are others that are holding out hope for him.
Chicago did bring on board a completely revamped coaching staff, and are expecting John Fox and Adam Gase to help turn their offense back around. That alone could help Cutler improve a bit, but most of all he has to get serious about being the player the Bears need, and work hard to get there. Cutler’s decision-making has been poor to say the least throughout his career with the Bears, and hard work would fix the majority of his issues.
Needless to say, the 2015 season is going to be very intriguing for the Bears. It could very well be their last chance given to Cutler, and if he doesn’t come through with a big season they could move on from him.
What five bold predictions can be made about him for the upcoming season? Can he turn his career around and get back on track?
1. Cutler Throws for Over 4,000 Yards
Last time Cutler threw for over 4,000 yards, he was playing for the Denver Broncos back in the 2008 season. He has not hit the mark yet as the Bears’ quarterback, but that will change this season. Alshon Jeffery, Martellus Bennett and Eddie Royal are without question good enough to propel him to that number, and he’ll also have Matt Forte to use as a weapon.
2. He Throws 10 or Less Interceptions All Season
One of the biggest issues for Cutler throughout his career has been the turnovers that he has committed. He threw 18 interceptions last season alone, but that will be cut down in a big way this season. Cutler is going to come in with a much sharper mind and with a new offensive system, and will throw 10 interceptions or less throughout the entire season.
3. Chicago Records At Least Eight Wins Behind Cutler’s Play
Chicago finished the regular season with a 5-11 record, which was an absolutely embarrassing finish for them in the NFC North. They were one of the worst teams in the NFL, but the changes they have made this offseason are going to help them take a big step forward. Cutler is going to play a much better all-around season, and lead his team to a record of at least 8-8 if not better.
