The Indianapolis Colts made a very difficult decision this past offseason, and moved on from veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne. He has meant a lot to the franchise throughout his entire career to this point, but just like Peyton Manning is considering playing elsewhere. According to a report from Mike Wells, Wayne has received some interest from around the NFL and plans to play during the 2015 season.

During his 14 seasons with the Colts, Wayne ended up posting some impressively consistent numbers. He caught 1,070 passes for 14,345 yards and 82 touchdowns. Wayne formed one of the NFL’s most deadly wide receiver duos in recent history alongside of Marvin Harrison, and Manning was the one that benefited from their success the most.
At 36 years old, there is no question that he still has another good season or two of football left in him. He showed that last season with the Colts despite having to go through multiple injury issues.
Last season in Indianapolis, Wayne ended up catching 64 passes for 779 yards and two touchdowns. Putting up those type of numbers are exactly what any team that signs him will be asking for from him. He isn’t going to be the star of an offense, but he is more than capable of being the type of glue piece that helps make an offense reach its full potential.
That being said, it will be interesting to see what ends up happening with Wayne throughout the rest of the offseason. There are quite a few teams that could use another consistent wide receiver. Denver makes a lot of sense for Wayne, as reuniting with Manning for one more season would be a major draw for both players.
Wayne could choose to wait to sign with a new team until after training camp. Plenty of veteran players have taken that route, especially Brett Favre who seemed to do it every single year for the last five years of his career. There is no doubt that Wayne will have a chance to play during the 2015 season if he truly wants it, and it’s seeming more and more like that is what he wants to do.
