Report: Rams receiver Stedman Bailey shot twice in head Tuesday night

St. Louis Rams receiver Stedman Bailey is in critical but stable condition after being shot Tuesday night, according to NFL.com.

Bailey was shot twice in the head while sitting in a car in Miami Gardens, Florida, NFL.com reports, and will undergo surgery Wednesday. The Rams reportedly do not believe the injuries are life-threatening.

According to ESPN, Bailey was in the car with his cousin, Antwan Reeves, and two children. Reeves suffered life-threatening bullet wounds, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, reportedly while shielding the kids from bullets. The children were unharmed, according to ESPN.

Police are looking for a light-colored, four-door sedan, possibly a Buick Regal, according to ESPN.

“We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening,” the Rams said in a statement. “We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition.  We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more.”

A number of NFL players have offered thoughts and prayers for Bailey on Twitter.

A third-round draft pick out of West Virginia in 2013, Bailey has 59 career catches for 843 yards, including 12 receptions for 182 yards and a touchdown in 2015. He is currently serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
