Between now and the end of August, TGS will offer up a quick snapshot of every NFL team heading into the 2015 regular season. Today, the Seattle Seahawks.
2014 in a nutshell: After a slow start thanks to a possible Super Bowl hangover, they get hot down the stretch and make another run to the big game, falling just short on a Russell Wilson interception in the final moments against New England.
Why 2015 could be different: Somehow, the Seahawks might have gotten better with the addition of Pro Bowl tight end Jimmy Graham.
Major additions: Graham and cornerbacks Will Blackmon and Cary Williams.
Major losses: Center Russell Okung was traded for Graham, guard James Carpenter went to the Jets, key defender Byron Maxwell signed with the Eagles and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn took a head-coaching job in Atlanta.
Breakout watch: Cornerback Marcus Burley could be their next diamond in the rough in the defensive backfield, and he could get plenty of opportunities this season.
Position to watch: The secondary has always been this team’s strength, but Earl Thomas is still hurt, Kam Chancellor is holding out and Maxwell is gone. Blackmon and Williams haven’t exactly been consistent in the past and they don’t have a ton of depth back there.
Prediction: Green Bay and Seattle are still slightly more talented than Dallas or anyone in the NFC South, so there’s no reason to think they won’t go meet again in the NFC championship game. Beyond that, it’s up in the air.
