With two weeks remaining in the 2015 NFL regular season, here’s how we view the MVP race…
1. Cam Newton, Panthers: One week ago, we didn’t even have Newton in this spot. Now, we’re crowning him and giving nobody a chance to catch him. That’s the nature of a 16-game season. But a third five-touchdown game in five weeks clinches this thing for Newton, who is likely to carry the league’s highest-scoring offense to a perfect regular season.
2. Russell Wilson, Seahawks: The league’s highest-rated passer (by a wide margin) has 19 touchdowns and zero interceptions (and a 143.6 rating) in his last five games. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a quarterback put up numbers like that over the course of a month. With limited support, he has this team on his shoulders.
3. Carson Palmer, Cardinals: Another stellar performance from the 35-year-old Sunday night has Arizona locked into first place in the AFC West while closing out the best season they’ve ever had. Palmer leads the league with 8.8 yards per attempt.
4. Tom Brady, Patriots: Brady and Palmer actually have near-identical numbers, and Brady hasn’t had as much support due to injuries. So this is basically a toss-up, but Palmer has done more for us lately. Neither have much of a chance now anyway.
