Todd Gurley’s status for Week 2 has been a very intriguing topic for the St. Louis Rams so far this week, although it appears that he likely won’t be making his NFL debut against the Washington Redskins. It seems that Tre Mason is going to be fine to make his sophomore NFL season debut this week to start at running back, according to a report from ESPN.
No matter when Gurley makes the debut that many have been waiting for, there is no question that he is going to make a major difference for the St. Louis offense.
Coming off of a torn ACL, being patient with Gurley is a very smart approach for the Rams. The last thing that they want to do is rush him back and see their young star go down with another injury because of it. Gurley is likely just fine to return to the field, but making sure that he is in the best shape that he can be before playing in a real game is key as well.
At 6-foot-1 and 227 pounds, Gurley is going to be an every down workhorse back for the Rams. He is more than capable of being a 1,000-yard running back each and every season, which is something that St. Louis hasn’t had over the past few seasons.
Throughout the entire 2015 NFL Draft process, Gurley was the top running back and many scouts and analysts made very glowing comparisons for him. Gurley was compared to both Adrian Peterson and Marshawn lynch for the most part, which is good either way for him. He definitely has a mix of the two in his game, but is very much his own player as well.
Expect to see Gurley make his return to the football field at some point in the next few weeks. Momentum is picking up for him and it is obvious that he is working as hard as possible to speed up his return date. St. Louis can’t wait to plug him into their offensive game plan and he is going to be a force to be reckoned with even as a rookie.
