The Chicago Bears have more locker room drama brewing on the horizon. In the middle of yet another embarrassing season, there are reports coming out that players are beginning to lose faith in starting quarterback Jay Cutler.
According to a report from Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report, two Bears’ players in particular sent text messages to the reporter making it clear that they don’t believe in their quarterback anymore. Any time that a team starts sending those kind of messages to the media, drama is soon to be coming.
Cutler heard about the report and made it clear that he wants to know who the players are and if the reporter doesn’t say names he won’t even pay attention to the report.
“Unnamed source, I’m guessing?” Cutler said. “The source could be a lot of people. It could be a made-up source. It could actually be guys in there. If people start putting names on it, we can have a discussion about it.”
At 33-years-old, many fans and media members have speculated that Cutler’s tenure with the Bears will be coming to an end in the near future. Some have even gone so far as to speculate that the Bears could have interested in acquiring Tony Romo from the Dallas Cowboys in the upcoming offseason. None of that has been proven, but it wouldn’t be shocking.
Throughout the course of the 2016 NFL season, Cutler has played in just four games heading into Week 11. He has struggled with injury issues once again, as has been the case quite a bit during his career. Cutler has completed just 59.8 percent of his pass attempts for 807 yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions.
Cutler will have a chance to right the ship this week on Monday Night Football in a favorable matchup against the New York Giants.
All of that being said, it appears that things are coming to a head in Chicago. Cutler cannot continue as the starting quarterback for the Bears if the team decides to reject him as their quarterback. We certainly seem to be getting close to that point.
Expect to hear more rumors come out of Chicago before the end of the season. Cutler’s days in Chicago are numbered, there is no denying that.
