Dalvin Cook is one of the top Heisman candidates heading into the 2016 college football season and many believe he will end up being a top pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He is without question one of the best playmakers that college football has and will help lead the Florida State Seminoles in their efforts to make the college football playoffs.
Last season with the Seminoles, Cook ended up carrying the football 229 times for 1,691 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also caught 24 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown on the season.
All of that being said, scouts are beginning to watch him closely and try to figure out who to compare him to at the next level. There is one player that one NFL general manager believes Cook compares to in particular.
“Dalvin Cook reminds me of Jamaal Charles. He doesn’t quite have the same top speed but he is a very natural runner and can really catch the ball.”
It is certainly an interesting comparison to say the very least. Cook has the same kind of playmaking ability that Charles has shown throughout his NFL career, but he has a bit more power. That could mean that Cook has the potential to become an even better all-around player than Charles has been.
At 5-foot-11 and 213 pounds, Cook has the size to be an every-down back at the next level. He will have to compete with Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffery as the top running backs eligible for the draft. Other running backs could end up competing with them as well.
Needless to say, it will be interesting to see what the 2016 college season holds for Cook.
Expect to see Cook improve his draft stock throughout the season. He has every skill needed to become a star at the next level. If Cook can lead his Seminoles to the playoffs, he will have a very good chance at winning the Heisman Trophy and adding to the high praise that he is receiving from NFL personnel.
