Gary Kubiak and the Denver Broncos are entering their Week 2 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts as major favorites. After knocking off the Carolina Panthers last Thursday night in a rematch of Super Bowl 50, the Broncos were immediately taken seriously once again after losing Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler during the offseason.
Last season, the Broncos were favored to knock off the Colts as well. Unfortunately for Denver, Andrew Luck and company knocked them off. Indianapolis didn’t win without a cost, however, as Luck went down with a lacerated kidney in the win.
That being said, the stage has been set for Sunday afternoon’s matchup. There are quite a few reasons to believe that the Broncos should win in blowout fashion, but the Colts are a very stubborn team.
What three things must the Denver Broncos do in order to come away with a victory over the Colts this week?
Trevor Siemian Must Take Care of the Football
First and foremost, Trevor Siemian must take care of the football this week. Indianapolis doesn’t have a great defense, which is even more of a reason to take care of the football and not give anything away to the Colts. If Siemian stays cautious and doesn’t take risks, the Broncos’ offense should still put up plenty of production to come away with a victory.
C.J. Anderson Must Come Through with Another Big Game
There is no question that the Broncos will rely heavily on C.J. Anderson throughout the course of the 2016 NFL season. He took a lot of pressure off of Trevor Siemian’s shoulders in Week 1 and should have another big game against the Colts. If Theo Riddick and Ameer Abdullah can have big games against the Colts’ defense, Anderson shouldn’t have much trouble.
Denver’s Defense Must Put Pressure on Andrew Luck
After watching Andrew Luck last week against the Lions, there is no question that he is back to being one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks. Even though he is back and elite once again, Luck can still be forced to throw interceptions at a decent clip. Denver needs to send as much pressure at Luck as they can and try to force quick decisions, which could lead to turnovers.
