The Indianapolis Colts are set to take on the San Diego Chargers in Week 3 as they look for their first win of the season. It has been a rough first two weeks of the season, but Chuck Pagano and his team are keeping faith in themselves. Injuries have been a big part of their struggles and it appears that some of their key players are on the mend.
One key player that went down with an injury last week was No. 2 wide receiver Donte Moncrief. Moncrief will miss a few weeks due to the injury, which means that a bigger role is in store for second-year receiver Phillip Dorsett.
Throughout the first two weeks of the season, Dorsett has caught five passes for 124 yards. He has not caught a touchdown yet, but that shouldn’t scare fantasy football owners away from inserting him into their lineups this week.
Dorsett is one of the fastest wide receivers in the NFL, which gives him a favorable matchup this week against a Chargers’ defense that isn’t known for stopping the pass. Pagano and the Colts’ coaching staff are going to put the football in franchise quarterback Andrew Luck’s hands early and often.
Obviously, T.Y. Hilton will be the most targeted receiver on the day if everything goes as expected. That being said, Dorsett is going to receive quite a few targets as well. He will be used as an every down wide receiver and will be a deep threat while taking on a much larger role as a possession wide receiver as well.
Luck has seemingly developed a good chemistry with the second-year wide receiver out of Miami. Even with a healthy Moncrief, Dorsett can be a sleeper play in quite a few weeks. He hasn’t been receiving the media attention that he deserves this week, despite the fact that he will be the Colts’ No. 2 target.
What can fantasy football owners expect to see from Dorsett from a statistical standpoint? Dorsett should put up around six receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown. There is a good chance that he could put up a lot more yardage than 65 yards, although this is a safe prediction.
Make sure to insert Dorsett into your lineup if you have him on your roster. He will be a decent No. 2 wide receiver option on your roster, but a perfect FLEX play.
