Green Bay Packers: Exclusive Interview with Rookie Reggie Gilbert

Reggie Gilbert was one of the most underrated defensive linemen in the entire 2016 NFL Draft class. He did not end up being drafted in the seven rounds of the draft, but he was signed quickly after the draft by the Green Bay Packers and has his sights set on making the roster.

It will be intriguing to see how he performs in preseason and training camp action, but fans can be sure that he will be extremely competitive and will have a chance to earn a spot.

During the 2015 college football season with the Arizona Wildcats, Gilbert ended up recording 41 tackles, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble. He has excellent speed and athleticism for a big defensive tackle, which will make him even more of a threat for the Packers. Combine that speed and athleticism with a dominant physical frame and the Packers could very well have a major sleeper.

Standing in at 6-foot-4 and weighing 262 pounds, Gilbert is going to be a very versatile lineman for Green Bay. He is going to move around from position to position, but there is a good chance that Capers views him as either a defensive end or a hybrid outside linebacker.

All of that being said, Gilbert took to the time to sit down for an exclusive interview with our very own Evan Massey. We hope that you enjoy the interview and begin following Gilbert as he attempts to make his dream of playing in the NFL come true with the Packers.

Q. What was the draft process like for you? How do you feel being a member of the Green Bay Packers?

A. The draft process was pretty relaxed for me I just tried to sit back and enjoy the process. I am extremely excited and proud to be a member of the Green Bay Packers, they are one of the most respected franchises in the league.

Q. What will you bring to the field for the Green Bay Packers for those who haven’t seen or heard much about you?

A. I would say that I bring a lot of passion, hard work, and intensity. I am a team player who would do anything for team and do whatever it takes to get the job done.

Q. What do you feel are your best skills on-the-field and what needs the most work in your opinion?

A. I would say my athleticism is something that has contributed to my success and also versatility is a big part of my game, the ability to play multiple positions and be effective. I am always striving to be better in all aspects of my game whether it be stopping the run or rushing the passer.

Q. How do you think you fit in with the Green Bay defense?

A. I will be playing their hybrid OLB position in their defense. I plan on rushing the passer a lot.

Q. Is there a current player in the NFL that you would compare your game to?

A. There’s not just one person I really try to look at different players and try to take different pieces of their game and add it to mine.

Q. What are your goals for your NFL career both team and individual?

A. My goal early on is to be able to contribute as much as possible to the teams success. My long-term goal is to be one of the best to ever play in the NFL.

Q. Looking back at your college career, can you think of a moment or two in particular that stand out as your favorites?

A. One is when we beat our rivals ASU to clinch the Pac 12 and  the other would have to be my senior night when we upset No.10 Utah in OT.

Q. What would you like to say to the Green Bay fan base in closing?

A. That I’m excited, and I appreciate all the love and support thus far! #GoPackGo

Expect to see Gilbert have a good shot at making the roster for the Packers this season. He has a great work ethic and the Packers were interested in him throughout the entire process. Gilbert is a very bright talent and it would be wise to start following him now and watch him rise in the coming months.
