The Green Bay Packers are gearing up for their second 2016 NFL preseason game this evening against the Oakland Raiders. It is still a preseason game, but there is a lot more excitement surrounding this game than there was last week. As is the case every week of the preseason, Green Bay should look much better than they did last week.
After knocking off the Cleveland Browns by a final score of 17-11 last week, Mike McCarthy went to work with his team. He wasn’t terribly happy with the game that they played, but preseason opening games will always be ugly.
Aaron Rodgers is not expected to play against the Raiders this evening, but backup quarterback Brett Hundley is expected to see his first action of the preseason.
There are quite a few things for the Packers’ fan base to watch for this week. Nothing should concern fans at this point, although there are some things that Green Bay fans should be excited about.
What three things should the Packers and their fan base be on the lookout for this week against the Raiders?
Does Brett Hundley Look Improved?
Green Bay made the decision to let backup quarterback Scott Tolzien walk in free agency to the Indianapolis Colts. They are betting that Brett Hundley is capable of taking on the backup quarterback duties. Hundley will likely start under center with Rodgers sitting again this week and it will be interesting to see just how improved he looks on-the-field.
Is Eddie Lacy Still Looking as Explosive as Last Week?
Every single Packers fan will be watching running back Eddie Lacy like a hawk in his limited playing time. He struggled with being overweight last season and it cost the Packers’ offense dearly. Lacy looked a bit more explosive last week against the Browns, but it will be interesting to see how he looks this week.
Will Davante Adams Prove He Is Worthy of a Roster Spot?
Sticking with the offense through all three things to watch, Davante Adams is battling for a roster spot. He was expected to be a huge difference maker last season, but he faltered under the pressure. Adams has a chance to seriously improve his chances of making the roster with a big game and will be given every chance to do just that this week.
Expect to see the Packers look much improved in their second preseason game of the year. They still have a lot of things to work on and will following the game as well, but taking a few steps forward this week is a major key.
