The Indianapolis Colts are heading into their second preseason game of the 2016 NFL season. They were able to knock off the Buffalo Bills by a final score of 19-18 in the first preseason game of the year. Chuck Pagano should be happy about the win, while also being disappointed with some of the mistakes that his team made.
No preseason game is ever going to be pretty, but the Colts need to clean some things up this week.
Looking ahead to the regular season, there are a few players in particular that the team needs to step up in a big way. They are hoping to turn things around after an incredibly disappointing season last year. Andrew Luck dealt with major injuries all season long, although that was far from their only problem.
Ryan Grigson went out and tried to improve the offensive line in the 2016 NFL Draft. He brought in a couple pieces that should help keep Luck upright. That being said, there are still quite a few question marks surrounding the Colts as the regular season continues to draw closer.
Which three players should the Colts’ be watching in particular tonight in the second preseason game of the year?
Andrew Luck, Quarterback
It seems likely that Jim Irsay will give the green light for Andrew Luck to play this week. He was held out of last week’s game against the Bills, due to the fact that Rex Ryan likes to blitz a little too much for the Colts’ taste in the preseason. Luck needs to take a big step forward this season and it will be interesting to see what he has in store for the fans in his first game back on-the-field.
Phillip Dorsett, Wide Receiver
Perhaps the biggest X-Factor that the Colts have this season is second-year wide receiver Phillip Dorsett. He is being asked to take on a much larger role than he had last season now that Andre Johnson is gone. Dorsett is ready for that increased role and his speed and athleticism should make him a dangerous weapon within the Colts’ offense.
Josh Ferguson, Running Back
Josh Ferguson may not be one of the first names that comes to mind when thinking about the Colts, but he could be a big name in Indianapolis in a few years. He has the potential to be a starting running back for the Colts at some point in the future. Frank Gore only has a few more good seasons left in his career and Ferguson will try to gain as much knowledge from the veteran back in the years that he can.
