The Miami Dolphins are heading into the 2016 NFL offseason with quite a few things to get done. One of those things is bringing back running back Lamar Miller, who broke out with a huge 2015 season. Reports are coming out and showing that the Dolphins “definitely” want to re-sign Miller when free agency opens up.
It is obvious that re-signing Miller would be the right move for the Dolphins after the way that he played this past season. Most players play better in contract years, but Miller will fit even better into new head coach Adam Gase’s offensive system.
Throughout the course of the 2015 NFL season, Miller ended up carrying the football 194 times for 872 yards and eight touchdowns. He also caught 47 passes for 397 yards and two touchdowns on the season.
At just 24 years of age, Miller still has a lot of high caliber football left to be played in his career.
Miami is without question capable of bringing Miller back from a financial standpoint. They have a decent amount of money to spend and Miller isn’t going to get massive offers elsewhere. There is always a chance that another team swoops in and ups the offer, but the Dolphins should be able to match any offer that is thrown his way should they choose to do so.
Miller was without question the best and most consistent offensive presence that the Dolphins had last season. Losing him would be a huge blow and they would have to find a brand new starting running back.
Other teams are definitely going to come knocking on Miller’s free agency door, but if he wants to come back to the Dolphins then a deal will get done.
Expect to hear plenty of rumors surrounding Miller and the Dolphins this offseason, but don’t be surprised if he ends up simply re-signing with Miami.
