The TCU Horned Frogs are known as one of the offensive powerhouses in college football and that likely will not change anytime soon. They have recruited well to create the offensive firepower that they have had in recent history and there are a lot of players committed to TCU that fit that description.
One of those players is 2017 four-star quarterback commit Shawn Robinson. He appears to be the future for TCU at the quarterback position and has legitimate superstar potential. Robinson had interest from many different schools before choosing the Horned Frogs and his future couldn’t be brighter.
According to ESPN, Robinson had offers from teams like the Alabama Crimson Tide, Michigan Wolverines, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Longhorns and LSU Tigers. He passed up all of those big name schools in order to join TCU.
Last season as a junior at Denton Guyer High School in Texas according to MaxPreps, Robinson had a bit of a down year. He threw for 1,422 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Two years ago, however, Robinson showed off an impressive arm and earned the interest that he has received, completing 60.9 percent of his pass attempts for 2,811 yards, 33 touchdowns and just five interceptions.
Robinson was more of a threat on the ground last season, racking up 1,568 yards and 17 touchdowns. He will be a dual-threat quarterback at TCU and has reminded quite a few analysts of former Horned Frogs star quarterback Trevone Boykin.
There is no question that the TCU fan base should be excited about Robinson. Our own Evan Massey was able to talk with Robinson about his commitment and what he will bring to the field. We hope that you enjoy the interview and begin following Robinson as he gets ready to take the next step in his career.
Q. What made you choose to commit to the TCU Horned Frogs? What were some of the main deciding factors?
Robinson: First, my relationship with the coaching staff and the offense being similar to my type of playing style. Looking at their player development and just the school overall were also deciding factors.
Q. How would you describe your game to a fan who hasn’t heard much about you?
Robinson: I feel like I can hurt defenses with my arm and my feet. I extend plays, I’m just a play maker. I’ll do whatever it takes to win!
Q. What have your coaches at TCU told you about your fit with the offense and what to work on in particular?
Robinson: Well, they say I fit perfectly. They want me to develop all my skills as a quarterback. They didn’t really specify on just one. Just want me working to improve each and every day.
Q. What do you think are the strongest and weakest aspects of your game?
Robinson: I feel like my strongest point is my ability to make plays or extend plays. I don’t really think I have a weak point. I feel like I’m well skilled all-around, but I’d say my focus of this summer is to get a great knowledge of the game. To know it inside and out.
Q. Is there a current NCAA or NFL quarterback that you would compare your game to?
Robinson: Growing up, when Braxton Miller was a quarterback he was my favorite player, but now I feel like I have a similar game to Trevone Boykin. I want to get to where he is. I like his game. He’s always calm, cool and collected.
Q. What are your goals for your career at TCU?
Robinson: I want to win a National Championship! I just want to grow into a good and responsible man after it’s all said and done. I also want to be able to provide for my future wife and kids and get a degree.
Q. Where do you see yourself in four years?
Robinson: I see myself leaving college with a good degree and maybe a chance to go to the NFL if God says the same!
Q. How would you describe yourself away from football?
Robinson: Let’s see, I’m laid back and I enjoy just hanging out with friends. That’s all I really do when I have free time. Sports take up a big chunk of my time.
Q. What would you like to say to the TCU fan base in closing?
Robinson: See y’all in six months. Go Frogs!
