Texas A&M Aggies: Exclusive Interview with 2016 RB Commit Rakeem Boyd

Rakeem Boyd is a four-star running back in the Texas A&M Aggies’ 2016 recruiting class. He is expected to be a star at the Division-I level and the Aggies couldn’t be happier to have him on board.

Texas A&M is going to need an offensive spark like Boyd over the next four years and he will not disappoint.

Last season at Stratford High School in Texas, Boyd put together a star-studded season. He carried the football 204 times for 1,396 yards and 19 touchdowns. Just two years ago as a junior, Boyd racked up 2,519 yards and 29 touchdowns on 246 carries.

Those numbers show why Boyd is viewed as such a prize for the Aggies and why he is expected to become  a star. He has the combination of strength and speed to be an every down workhorse back. Boyd also possesses the ability to be a playmaker as a receiver out of the backfield and can block when necessary as well.

At 5-foot-11 and 198 pounds, Boyd possesses the size necessary to be an every down back as well.

Boyd took the time to sit down and do an exclusive interview with our Evan Massey. We hope that you enjoy the interview and encourage you to follow along with Boyd as he takes the next step in his football career.

Q. What made you choose to commit to Texas A&M? What were some of the main deciding factors?

A. First I was thinking I could fit in really good there and I talked with my parents and took them up there they loved it and I did. I just made my decision. And they back me up. The coaching staff I just had a good relationship with, felt right at home. Also my type of ball and place to compete. Last big part that went with the decision is the chance to play in the SEC. That’s where I’ve always want to play. Most guys don’t want play SEC because they scared to compete! I’m not! There it is.

Q. What has Kevin Sumlin told you about your fit with the team both as a freshmen and into the future?

A. Nothing too much. But he told me, “come in ready to compete!”

Q. Is there a current college football or NFL running back that you would compare your game to?

A. Not anyone really. Basically have my own style of running.

Q. What will you bring to the field? Can you detail your game for those that haven’t seen or heard much about you?

A. Raw talent! Anything I have to do to be on that field next year I will.

Q. What do you think are your biggest strengths? What do you think needs the most work?

A. Change of speed and cuts are my strongest points and things I need to work on is sometimes staying play side.

Q. What are your goals for your career at Texas A&M both team and individual?

A. Let’s work our way up to a natty and SEC. Individual goals are to make it into the league.

Q. Who would you say has helped you the most to get you to this point?

A. My mother and my OC was like a dad to me.

Q. What message would you like to send go the Texas A&M fan base in closing?

A. I’m not going to let y’all down! Giving it my all.

Expect to see Boyd come into Texas A&M and compete for playing time immediately. Sumlin and the Aggies’ coaching staff is getting a player who will make a major impact throughout his career. He may not be receiving a ton of hype, but Boyd is going to be one of the top running backs in the nation if he lives up to his full potential.
