We are less than two weeks away from all training camps starting and there are still some veterans out there possibly looking to latch on with a team. Or perhaps they’ll sign somewhere later in camp after injuries occur… or maybe they won’t play at all in 2016. This is a similar list to the same post I did 2 months ago, updated to reflect that Jason Jones found a home (Dolphins) and Walter Thurmond officially retired.
Greg Hardy, DE: He’s still without an NFL job and this should come as no surprise. As mentioned before, Hardy has made so much money sitting idle the last couple of years he probably doesn’t even need to play. We’ll see if someone becomes desperate enough for a pass rush to stomach the bad PR, financial cost and locker room headache.
Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB: Should we start considering the very real possibility that he won’t play for an NFL team in 2016? Everyone seems to think he’s going back to the Jets but the stalemate continues.
Anquan Boldin, WR: Reports are the Saints poked around recently and he has some options on the table.
Leon Hall, CB: At 31 he’s not the player he used to be but he’s still very capable.
Arian Foster, RB: His market seems to be heating up a bit with workouts scheduled for the Lions and Dolphins.
Henry Melton, DT: A very good player for the Bears and Cowboys, Melton had a miserable season with the Bucs last year. He’ll be 30 in October and his recent play might suggest he’s on the decline. You can’t rule out a return to health and production, though.
Dwight Freeney, DE: Even at 36 he can still rush the passer. He had 8 sacks last year and is 19th all time. He made it clear recently he is looking for work.
Jahri Evans, G: Injuries have caused the decline of this 6 time Pro Bowler. He’s 33 in August but he’s still a starter quality guard if he’s healthy. Oddly he was close to signing with the Bills very early in the free agency period before they re-signed Richie Incognito. Since then it’s been radio silence from teams. Perhaps financial demands are too high?
Eugene Monroe, T: Some think his release from the Ravens was due to his very vocal marijuana advocacy. The reality is that while he’s 29 and productive when healthy, he’s just been really banged up the last two years.
Donte Whitner, S: He’s 31 but he’s still “Hitner” and he played pretty well for the Browns last year.
