Each Friday this NFL season, we’re taking a quick look at the league’s most interesting team in action that weekend. This week, we’re going with the Buffalo Bills.
Why the Bills? Because we’re about to find out if that four-game winning streak was an aberration. The Bills, at different points this season, have looked like one of the worst teams in the NFL and one of the best teams in the NFL. They have a ton of great pieces on offense and defense, but if they drop back-to-back division games in October (they lost to Miami last week) they’ll be scrapping for a wild-card spot in the best case-scenario.
Why this week? Because they’re going up against the mighty New England Patriots, who have won that division, like, 74 consecutive times. And because they beat the Patriots on the road just a few weeks ago. That, however, came against a third-string quarterback. Now, they’ll have to beat Tom Brady in order to sweep New England in a season series for the first time this century.
What should we expect? Nobody knows, which is why they’re so intriguing. Will we see the penalty-plagued Bills team that crapped the bed in Weeks 1 and 2 or the suddenly competent squad that won four straight after that? We’ll find out on Sunday afternoon, and reactions should be strong either way.
Put it all together and for at least one weekend, the Bills are America’s most interesting football team.
