Top 5 NFL Players from Week 2

This weekly segment will highlight the best performances of the week in the NFL. Every position and player is eligible, all it requires is a truly epic showing. It’s not always stat driven, or analytics grade driven, though those things help you get on this list.

1. Von Miller, LB, Denver Broncos

Sometimes people worry that  big new contract will make a player less focused on the field. Based on Miller’s 3 sacks of Andrew Luck on Sunday, the Broncos are getting a return on their investment thus far.

2. Stefon Diggs, WR, Minnesota Vikings

For the second straight week Diggs had a huge game and he’s a big part of why the Vikings are 2-0. He’s quickly establishing himself as a top young receiver in the league and as much as people are talking about how good Sam Bradford looked, Diggs deserves a lot of credit for that. He finished with 9 catches (on 10 targets) for 182 yards and a touchdown.

3. Cam Newton, QB, Carolina Panthers

Remember how good the 49ers defense looked in week 1 against the Rams when they shut them out? What a difference a week makes. Cam Newton led the Panthers to a 46 point day on the same defense, going 24-40 for 353 yards, 4 touchdowns and 1 interception for a rating of 111.8. He also rushed for 37 yards.

4. Marcus Peters, CB, Kansas City Chiefs

His ball skills continue to be out of this world. After an 8 interception rookie campaign, he added two more picks Sunday in Houston. He was also rated by Pro Football Focus as the best player at his position (along with Josh Norman) for the week.

5. Matt Forte, RB, New York Jets

The Bears didn’t think he was worth keeping around, but so far he’s looked infinitely better than Jeremy Langford. Forte rushed for exactly 100 yards and 3 touchdowns in a big win over the Bills. Forte is currently tied for the NFL lead in touchdowns scored.
