The Carolina Panthers were one of the best teams in the NFL just two years ago, but last year was rough. Their offense completely fell off the map, with Cam Newton struggling under pressure. Carolina knew that they had to do something in the 2017 NFL Draft and they feel like they have accomplished that with Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey.

Last season at Stanford, McCaffrey racked up 253 carries for 1,603 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also recorded 37 receptions for 310 yards and three touchdowns. Carolina is getting much more than a running back, as McCaffrey will be a playmaker as a receiver and return man.
McCaffrey is going to take a lot of pressure off of Newton’s shoulders immediately starting in 2017. He will be a big play threat as a running back, but will also make plays as a receiver out of the backfield.
NFL.com listed his NFL comparison as former Giants’ star Tiki Barber and also broken down a bottom line description of his fit at the next level.
“Multidimensional runner with flex appeal for teams looking for a player who can carry the ball 20 times or catch it 10 depending on the game plan. McCaffrey’s size, power and speed are just average, but he is able to create yardage for himself with his vision and elusiveness. McCaffrey’s ability to return punts and kicks could be the value sweetner that pushes his name into the first round.”
Expect to see McCaffrey become a huge part of the Carolina offense immediately to start his career. He will be utilized in many different ways and the Panthers’ fan base will enjoy watching him play.
