Chicago Bears Trade Up To Draft Mitchell Trubisky With No. 2 Pick

The Chicago Bears were rumored to be looking to trade back from the No. 3 overall pick just prior to the opening of the 2017 NFL Draft. How wrong the media was. Chicago not only didn’t trade back in the draft, but they struck a deal with the San Francisco 49ers to trade up to the No. 2 overall pick in the draft.

With the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, the Bears selected who many believe will be the quarterback of the future in North Carolina’s Mitchell Trubisky.

Needless to say, this was a bit of a shocker for the entire league. Trubisky was expected to drop a bit more and many thought he would be available for the Browns with the No. 12 overall pick by the Browns. Obviously, things changed and the Bears believe that they have a franchise quarterback.

Last season with the Tar Heels, Trubisky completed 68.2 percent of his pass attempts for 3,748 yards, 30 touchdowns, and just six interceptions. Those numbers vaulted him up draft boards and ended up making him the first quarterback selected in the draft.

Expect to see Trubisky compete hard with Mike Glennon to start as a rookie this season. Chicago signed Glennon to a fairly large contract in free agency this past offseason, which may end up looking like a mistake when everything is said and done. That being said, the Bears’ fan base should be excited to have Trubisky on board.

Do you think the Chicago Bears made the right decision by trading up to draft Mitch Trubisky? If not, who do you think they should have taken? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below!
