If a team was looking for speed at the wide receiver position in the 2017 NFL Draft, Washington Huskies’ wide receiver John Ross would be the right guy. That is exactly what the Cincinnati Bengals found with the No. 9 overall pick in the draft. Ross was a much-needed pick to help add more weapons for Andy Dalton.

Last season with the Huskies, Ross ended up catching 81 passes for 1,150 yards and 17 touchdowns. He has been compared to DeSean Jackson by many, including on ESPN’s draft breakdown of him after the selection.
Cincinnati knew that they needed to add more talent alongside A.J. Green at the wide receiver position. Adding the kind of deep threat that Ross will be in the NFL is exactly what they needed to take the next step. Ross will take advantage of mismatches thrown his way due to opposing defenses focusing on shutting Green down.
One NFC scout talked about Ross’ competitive attitude and the comments were a glowing compliment for him.
“He will get emotional on the field when he drops one or when their quarterback leaves an open deep ball short, and I’ve heard other scouts call it ‘bad body language.’ I just think he’s an edgy player. He’s competitive and shows it. You’ll take some attitude when a guy scores as many touchdowns as he does.”
Expect to see Ross put up a big rookie season for the Bengals. He will have a big role right off the bat and will earn Dalton’s trust quickly.
