Green Bay Packers’ Rookie Vince Biegel Breaks Foot, Could Return for Training Camp

The Green Bay Packers are without question one of the more intriguing teams to keep an eye on this season and are hoping that their defensive rookies can step up. Ted Thompson drafted Wisconsin linebacker Vince Biegel in the 2017 NFL Draft and believe that he can help their pass rush take the next step.

Unfortunately, Biegel suffered a broken foot and is questionable to be back for the start of training camp.

After losing veteran pass rusher Julius Peppers this offseason, Green Bay needed to find a new pass rusher. Many thought they would address that need earlier than the fourth round of the draft, but Biegel dropping to their pick was a huge plus. If he is healthy, Biegel has a good chance to earn playing time immediately.

Last season at Wisconsin, Biegel racked up 44 total tackles to go along with four sacks and a forced fumble. At 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds, Biegel is without question physically ready for the NFL.

Ted Thompson and the Packers’ front office took a huge step towards rebuilding their defense in the draft. In addition to Biegel, the Packers brought in cornerback Kevin King, defensive back Josh Jones, and defensive tackle Montravius Adams in the first three rounds. They then focused on offense later in the draft with three rookie running backs and two wide receivers.

Dom Capers has been on the hot seat over the past couple of years and has to find a way to put things together. If he is unable to do so with all the young talent he has been given, Green Bay could choose to go a different direction.

Expect to see Biegel recover and return at some point during training camp, if not before. Hopefully this foot injury won’t slow him down too much, as he has a very good chance to have a large role as a rookie.
