Clemson Tigers wide receiver Mike Williams at one point suffered a neck injury that some thought would end his career. Not only did Williams overcome the injury, he has worked his way back to become the No. 7 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Los Angeles Chargers knew they needed to get Philip Rivers more help and that is exactly what they did by adding Williams.

Last season at Clemson, Williams ended up catching 98 passes for 1,361 yards and 11 touchdowns. Those numbers answered any remaining questions about his future following the injury.
At 6-foot-1 and 221 pounds, Williams will add a completely new dynamic for Rivers. He is a big receiver with even bigger athleticism who can go get 50/50 balls. If Keenan Allen can return to full health from his injury last season, the duo that Rivers will be throwing to may be one of the best in the AFC.
NFL.com put out a bottom line on Williams and it is something that every Chargers fan should read.
“Williams looks the part of a WR1 and has shown an ability to work all three levels of the field after coming back from his 2015 neck injury. Williams is tough enough to be a high-volume target while working the middle of the field and his size and ball skills make him a formidable foe in the end zone. He’ll have to be coached up with his routes and releases, but he has the talent to become a big safety blanket for a young quarterback.”
Expect to see the Chargers’ offense take a big step forward this season with Williams on the field. Los Angeles wanted to add help for Rivers and this was the exact move to do that.
