NFL Training Camp Profile: Eddie Lacy, Running Back, Seattle Seahawks

Eddie Lacy decided to leave the Green Bay Packers this season to sign with the Seattle Seahawks. It was a move that disappointed the Packers’ fan base, but Lacy couldn’t be more excited to start the next chapter of his career. That being said, what should Seahawks’ fans know about Lacy and what should they be looking for heading into training camp?

Overview

Last season with the Packers, Lacy ended up carrying the football just 71 times for 360 yards and no touchdowns. Those numbers were a major disappointment and his season-ending injury was even more disappointing. Lacy has had two straight years of struggling with weight issues and that has to step if he wants to get back to his old self.

What Must Change in 2017?

First and foremost, Lacy has to figure out how to get his work ethic back on track. He cannot afford to continue struggling with weight issues if he wants to become an every-down NFL starting running back again. Seattle has put weight restrictions and incentives into his contract, which should help him get back in shape.

Outside of the weight problems, Lacy has to find his passion for the game of football again. It was obvious at times over the past two years that Lacy wasn’t enjoying himself on-the-field.

Seattle has a lot of running backs that are capable of stepping into a role this season. Lacy seems to be the early favorite to start, but Thomas Rawls and C.J. Prosise aren’t going to give him the starting job without a fight. Lacy should get his competitive juices flowing early and head coach Pete Carroll will not let things slide this season.

Expect to see Lacy figure himself out this season and get back on track. Seattle could have signed one of the top production running backs in the league if Lacy gets back on track, which should scare the rest of the league. It will certainly be intriguing to see what happens with Lacy throughout the 2017 season.
