The Indianapolis Colts went through an offseason of change this year, with new general manager Chris Ballard taking over the reigns of the front office. Chuck Pagano stayed as the head coach once again this offseason, even with all of the heat that he was feeling at the end of last season. One of the moves that Ballard made was to trade starting tight end Dwayne Allen and backed it up be re-signing Jack Doyle.
Doyle now looks ahead to a much larger role this season and it will be interesting to see how he responds. We are going to take a look at an overview of Doyle’s game and what he must focus on heading into the upcoming season in order to live up to the hype surrounding him.
Overview
Last season, Doyle caught 59 passes for 584 yards and five touchdowns. He put those numbers up while being the second tight end in the rotation. Doyle is going to be an intriguing player to keep an eye on this season both on the field and for fantasy football owners.
Standing in at 6-foot-6 and 267 pounds, Doyle is without question one of the top offensive weapons for Andrew Luck this season. Luck has always utilized his tight ends well, but this will be the first year that he has an unproven starter as his top tight end.
All of that being said, the Colts should expect to see Doyle step up to the table this season and put up the numbers that the offense needs from him.
What Must Improve in 2017?
Doyle hasn’t been known as a lethal pass catcher throughout his young career, but that must change this season. Luck has great wide receivers in T.Y. Hilton, Donte Moncrief, Chester Rogers, and even newly-signed receiver Kamar Aiken. That may be the case, but the Colts need a legitimate tight end.
Expect to see Doyle improve his numbers dramatically and take the steps needed to keep the Colts’ offense clicking on all cylinders.
